What's included
What we do on brakes
- 01Brake pad replacement. Worn pads out, new pads in, and the caliper hardware checked while we are there.
- 02Rotor resurfacing. A rotor that has gone out of true gets machined flat again when there is enough material left to do it safely.
- 03Full brake inspection. Pads, rotors, calipers, lines and fluid, with a plain explanation of what we found and what actually needs replacing.
Signs
Signs your brakes need work
- High-pitched squeal when you brake. Most pads have a metal wear indicator that sings when the pad is getting low.
- Grinding. The pad is usually worn through and metal is on metal. Urgent
- Pulsing in the pedal or the steering wheel. Typically a rotor that is no longer flat.
- Soft, spongy pedal, or a pedal that sinks toward the floor. Urgent
- The car pulls to one side when you brake.
- Brake warning light, or stopping distances that feel longer than they used to.
- As a rule of thumb, new pads start around 10 to 12 mm and many technicians recommend replacing them around 3 to 4 mm.
What to expect
We inspect first and tell you what actually needs replacing.
You get a written estimate before any work starts, and you sign it. If you want the old pads or rotors back, say so when you drop the car off. The bill is itemized so it reads like the estimate.
